2024 Year in Review

Eager to close the book on 2024.

Summary

For most of the year I've been drawing down reserves (financial, emotional) while continuing to tread water in other dimensions.

Professionally

For most of the year I was passively interviewing and looking for roles that would be a better fit for me long term. I wanted to find a place that I could stick out for 4 years. Went through a lot of on-sites, was rejected many times, got back up and did it again.

Eventually, something came through and I'll be moving on to that.

I've found that being strict with habits of doing boring stuff every day at least ensures I'm making some progress along a dimension. If I'm stumped by a problem, I can look up the answer. If I understand the answer, at least if I see that problem again I'll have a chance.

Side projects didn't make progress, but I've started a few other ones. May have more time now that I'm not interviewing.

Personally

Learned a bit about myself.

I think that I'm more comfortable not being in a group.

Otherwise, my personal goals didn't really progress at all last year. We'll see how 2025 fares.
